Terry Armstrong and Lew Hayden met in Pittsfield, Maine, but their passion for making quality footwear led them to San Antonio, Texas. In 1976, Terry and Lew struck out on their own with their first factory at 101 New Laredo Hwy. They started small and built one shoe at a time with the highest attention to detail. Today, SAS’s line features everything from walking and athletic shoes to pumps, flats, sandals, and even a new boot for women. The men’s line has expanded to include walking and athletic wear to dress shoes. To witness how SAS creates the most comfortable shoes in the world, visitors are invited to experience a free factory tour! Follow along the intricate shoe-making journey at one of the few remaining shoe factories in the United States. Tours are available Monday through Thursday at the SAS shoe factory and General Store and don’t forget your change for 5-cent popcorn and 10-cent soda pop!
