Founded in 1924, the San Antonio Conservation Society works to preserve many of the historic attractions that make San Antonio a top destination in Texas. The society advocates the reuse of historic structures; conducts annual bus tours of historic sites for school children; offers grants for community preservation projects; maintains two historic house museums and a research library; presents awards for the restoration of the built environment and for the publication of outstanding books on Texas history; and, hosts speakers to support heritage projects across the city. What’s more is the Society founded and hosts everyone’s favorite Fiesta event, A Night in Old San Antonio® (NIOSA). Growing each year since 1948, the event is the largest celebration for preservation fundraising in the United States! And, with more than 1,700 active volunteers, the Society continues to work to preserve the city’s unique history that makes San Antonio so rich in culture.
