We sat down with Guy Doria, one of Visit San Antonio’s Destination Experience Managers to chat about his time in San Antonio and some of the best things he has helped plan for groups.
Where are you from? How long have you lived in San Antonio and why did you move here?
GD: I am originally from Hawaii and have lived all over the world. My wife wanted to move to San Antonio, and we did. We’ve lived here for 780 days!
What do you love about working for Visit San Antonio?
GD: I enjoy working with our internal Destination Experience and Engagement team, as well as our partners and clients.
Tell us about one of the more unique group activities that you’ve helped plan.
GD: We planned a 1927-era Speakeasy for a Board of Director’s dinner. The attendees and staff were in period dress. We transported the guest in 1920’s cars to Zinc and once they arrived, they were met by a 300lb doorman asking them for the password to gain access. The scene was set with gangster Big Ed and his Moll as the evening’s hosts, which included dinner, dancing and games. At the end of the evening, we had police officers waiting to take each of the guests in the paddy wagon, of course we included a Jimmy Olsen-style photographer to snap a photo of each couple before they were transported to the slammer (their hotel). The next morning, each couple received a copy of the San Antonio Daily with their arrest photo and the accompanying story to celebrate the Association’s 75th Anniversary!
Now for a few speed round questions:
Breakfast or Brunch?
On the Rocks or Frozen?
GD: On the Rocks
Give attendees three reasons to come to a meeting/event in San Antonio.
GD: The people, the place and the positive experience. Visiting San Antonio will add years onto your life!

Keep your eyes peeled to meet the rest of the Destination Experience team but in the meantime start exploring San Antonio: https://meetings.visitsanantonio.com/.
