Durty Nelly’s Irish Pub

The pub opened September 11, 1974.

Durty Nelly’s Irish Pub is a replica of the original Durty Nelly’s in Ireland, dating back to 1620, as part of the Bunratty Castle in Limerick, Clare Country. It’s been part of the landscape at Bunratty for almost 400 years, and today continues to be the “favourite ‘watering hole’ of both locals and visitors alike.”

The concept of the San Antonio location came from Bill Hunter, general manager of Hilton Palacio del Rio in the 1970’s. After visiting the bar in Ireland, he returned to the Alamo City to convince Bartell Zachry (previous CEO of Zachry Construction Company and builder/owner of Hilton Palacio del Rio) to build an identical pub on a seldom used corner of the hotel. The pub is designed in the tradition of the European style with two fireplaces, slate floors and stone walls, and from the time its doors first opened to present day, this corner is a hot spot on the San Antonio River Walk.

La Margarita Mexican Restaurant & Oyster Bar

SINCE 1981
Jorge Cortez traveled Mexico, exploring Monterrey, Laredo and Guadalajara in search of unique and different cuisine to bring to San Antonio. Coming upon a regional specialty that was once only familiar to vaqueros, butchers and their families, Jorge thought a dish of sizzling skirt-steak served on cast-iron plates would be popular. Although skeptical at first of the now-famous “Sizzling Fajitas”, Pedro was extremely proud to see his sons taking initiative and expanding the family business. In 1981, Jorge created and opened La Margarita Restaurant & Oyster Bar, offering Sizzling Fajitas and Seafood.

In the literal sense, a Tributary is a body of water that feeds a larger river or lake. The San Antonio River, on which the restaurant sits, is a tributary feeding the Guadalupe River and eventually the Gulf of Mexico. In the historical sense, a Tributary was someone who paid tribute. By focusing on partnering with local farmers for our produce and proteins, respecting the seasonality of the state of Texas, and employing creativity in presentation and cooking technique, we are paying tribute to our great state and to the bounty it provides.

Nestled in the historic Sullivan Carriage House, Jardín is Chef Jason Dady’s latest concept offering inspirations from the Mediterranean Basin. Enjoy al fresco dining in Gertie’s Garden, an afternoon reprieve at the white marble bar; or dining in the farmhouse ambiance.

Schilos Delicatessen

Starting as a saloon in Beeville, TX in the late 1800s, the Schilo family moved to the big booming city of San Antonio in 1914. In 1917, Mama Schilo started serving some of her famous recipes like split pea soup, potato pancakes, homemade meatloaf, the list goes on… We believe this was in anticipation of prohibition which arrived a few short years later. Due to their innovation and foresight, they were able to successfully shift from being a strict saloon to a reputable restaurant in a few short years. Adding a homemade root beer helped get them through those dry years and their unwavering German work ethic helped them stay in business through hard times like the Great Depression and World War II. Walking through the front doors of the restaurant that was originally constructed as a currency exchange bank, is like walking back in time. Which is why it is certain to be on any local’s “must-do” list. And, fortunately real beer has been back on the menu for a long time!
