Spanish Governor’s Palace

A National Historic Landmark. In the heart of downtown. Visit the Spanish Governor’s Palace, the last visible trace of the Presidio San Antonio de Bexar, and the only remaining example in Texas of an aristocratic 18th-century Spanish Colonial townhouse. Upon its completion in 1749, the house served as the Commandancia, or residence and working office, of the Captain of the Presidio. Later, it became the home of the Spanish governors who lived in San Antonio. Today, the only building that still stands of the Presidio San Antonio Bexar is the Spanish Governor’s Palace. It is one of the oldest residential buildings still standing in Texas. The building is a long one-story, U-shaped stone structure covered in stucco that surrounds a traditional Spanish patio and courtyard. San Antonio Art League Museum

Free and open to the public, the San Antonio Art League Museum is home to over 600 works in its permanent collection by notable Texas artists such as Robert and Julian Onderdonk, Jose Arpa, Emma Richardson Cherry, E.G. Eisenlohr, Mary Bonner, Charles Umlauf, and Amy Freeman Lee. The heart of the collection is the paintings from the Edgar B. Davis Texas Wildflower Competitive Exhibitions in the 1920s. San Antonio African American Community Archive & Museum

The San Antonio African American Community Archive and Museum (SAAACAM) is uncovering the untold African American history that reaches back to the early days of the Spanish colonists and the Texas Republic. Formed to collect, maintain, disseminate, and interpret authentic African American artifacts related to San Antonio history in a community-based digital archive, the organization’s goal is to reclaim San Antonio’s Black history. Our physical location is the Sutton Family homestead, 430 N. Cherry Street. Private tours and events are available at our location. Our location can host up to 50 people. We can also provide exhibit(s) and programming to suit all ages at your meeting location or at partner locations accommodating up to 300 persons indoors and an unlimited number outdoors.

Grant Pinkerton was born and raised in Houston, to a family with small-town Texas roots in the Hill Country and Gulf Coast. He is an avid outdoorsman and conservationist. He attended and graduated from Lamar High School where he was an active member of Future Farmers of America. He went on to The University of Texas at Austin, getting his degree in Rhetoric and Writing. From a young age, he was fascinated with meat, fire, and old Texas traditions. Upon returning to Houston after college, he decided to turn his fascination into a career. What started out as a barbecue pit and a dream has grown into one of Texas’ best BBQ joints. He prides himself on the quality of his meat and his sides, all made daily from scratch. His restaurant serves variations of his family’s recipes as well as some of his own originals.
