San Antonio’s downtown convention center, one of America’s best meeting facilities, has added even more space, style and convenience with $40 million in renovations.
The Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center is located downtown on the city’s charming River Walk, just steps away from over 10,000 hotel rooms (3,000 within one block), 300 restaurants, and the city’s best known historic sites, such as the Alamo, La Villita, the Historic Menger Hotel, and HemisFair Park. In 2011, Forbes named San Antonio as one of America's best downtowns for its beauty, accessibility and cultural offerings. Delegates find it easy to network and socialize in such a dense urban core. Planners save the cost of transportation because of the compact, walkable downtown.
When you step inside the convention center, you realize it’s not a typical meeting space. From the hotel ambiance with custom carpeting and commissioned artwork to the picturesque San Antonio River that flows gently through the center, it’s evident why Meetings South magazine has voted it the “Best Convention Center in the Industry.” With more than 1.3 million square feet of beautifully decorated space, including 630,000 total square feet of meeting space and 438,000 contiguous square feet of exhibit space, the convention center offers tremendous flexibility and functionality. In fact, 300 annual events are held here for more than 750,000 convention delegates from around the world.
Lila Cockrell Theatre
Following a $26 million refurbishment, the Lila Cockrell Theatre creates a memorable venue with three levels of plush seating, contemporary crystal chandeliers, interior finishes in rich red and gold, mosaic tile inlays and inspiring works of art. Located in the heart of the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, the theatre can accommodate 2,400 for general assemblies, corporate presentations, performing arts events and concerts.
Lonesome Dove Room
The new Lonesome Dove Room, adjacent to the beautiful River Walk Grotto, features richly furnished, custom-made Texas Western décor and retractable glass doors for an alfresco setting. This room was specifically created for catered VIP and special events for 150 to 500 guests and offers dedicated parking nearby. The Waterfall Patio (Upper Grotto area) is a beautiful, elevated outdoor patio at the foot of the River Walk waterfall, ideal for small outdoor gatherings and just outside the River Level meeting rooms.
Plaza Acequia
Take advantage of San Antonio’s moderate climate and hold your event in Plaza Acequia, the convention center’s newest outdoor event space, with 20,000 usable square feet that can accommodate up to 1,500. The plaza is named for one of the irrigation channels (acequias) built on the site during the Spanish colonial era.
Official Visitor Information Center
The new Visitor Information Center, conveniently located inside the convention center, is your first stop for obtaining maps, brochures and expert advice from the professional staff. Whether you are looking for information about the convention center or about San Antonio, you'll find what you need here.
Digital Wayfinding
Locating your meeting venue is easier than ever with the convention center's new signage. In the public areas, nine digital wayfinding signs assist attendeees in locating their meetings. Throughout the center, 75 meeting room signs provide the event information and schedule for each room.
