Green Meetings

From becoming a chartered member of the Convene Green Alliance to initiating a plan to build a sustainable economy, San Antonio is committed to upholding environmental best practices for its meeting attendees, as well as its leisure visitors and residents.

San Antonio is the 7th largest city in the nation. And now it’s also emerging as one of the greenest. Our green initiatives include:

  • The largest solar power capacity of any city in Texas
  • The largest wind power portfolio of any municipal utility in the U.S.
  • The second busiest B-Cycle bike-share system in the country with over 300 bicycles in its 30-station bike share system
  • An improved convention center that consumes 36% less electricity
  • An international reputation in water conservation accommodating a 67% increase in population over the last 25 years without an increase in overall water consumption
  • A Hertz On Demand 24/7 car-share system, which includes an all-electric vehicle
  • The nation’s largest (110 miles) direct recycled water delivery system for use by golf courses, parks, San Antonio's famous River Walk and commercial and industrial customers
  • 100% electric battery buses in the downtown area
  • A fleet of hybrid taxicabs
  • Free downtown on-street parking for hybrid and electric vehicles, and a network of more than 130 electric vehicle charging stations, many with multiple chargers
  • An expanded pedestrian-friendly River Walk that’s also the largest urban ecosystem in the nation

Green Events Planning Guide
On April 8, 2010, the City of San Antonio City Council adopted an ordinance requiring events with certain criteria to complete a Green Event Scorecard. The City of San Antonio’s Office of Sustainability has provided a guide to assist meeting planners with completing a Green Event Scorecard and provide tips to plan a greener event. Following the guide can help to reduce the amount of waste, energy and materials consumed during the course of your event planning and festivities. Download the guide here.
