San Antonio’s central location makes it a convenient destination from both the East and West coasts, and a newly renovated international airport located only 8 miles from downtown makes access even easier.
The San Antonio International Airport boasts more than 100 incoming flights per day. Additionally, Stinson Municipal Airport (smaller and private planes only) is located six miles south of downtown and only minutes away from convention facilities and San Antonio attractions.
San Antonio is conveniently located in south-central Texas, only 1.5 hours from Austin, 3.5 hours from Houston and 4.5 hours from Dallas/Fort Worth.
Getting to and From the Airport
Taxi - The San Antonio International Airport is only a 15-minute taxi ride from downtown. Two to six people ride for the price of one.
Shuttle - Book an airport shuttle in advance or purchase tickets at the airport. Several hotels also offer complimentary shuttle service from and to the airport.
Getting Around Downtown
Open-air streetcars – Authentic reproductions of those that traveled the streets of San Antonio more than 50 years ago, streetcars make it easy to get to top attractions like the Alamo, the Spanish Governor's Palace, La Villita and the King William Historic District. The downtown streetcar station at Convention Plaza provides convenient access for travelers.

VIVA is a new service line by VIA Metropolitan Transit that makes it easier than ever to see San Antonio! Three distinct routes will connect you to museums, parks, culture, history and more. Catch VIVA Missions to see our UNESCO World Heritage Site Missions. Experience Southtown Arts District, the King William Historic District, and the Broadway Cultural Corridor when you board VIVA Culture. Or take in our scenic downtown from Centro Plaza to Sunset Station and more on VIVA Centro.
Rio San Antonio Cruises – Open-air river cruisers travel up and down the River Walk and can be rented for group transportation and dinners. Cruisers run continuously throughout the day, stopping at several locations. Ticket booths are located at Rivercenter Mall, across the river from the Hilton Palacio del Rio hotel, at the river level of the Aztec Theatre and on the new Museum Reach at the lock and dam.
Rio also offers a river taxi service that stops at approximately 40 spots along the River Walk for a unique way to get from place to place. Drivers have tickets on board, or you may purchase them at any ticket location.
The Sightseer Special (Bus 7) – Perfect for touring the city, this bus runs daily between the city’s top sites. Locations include the Henry B. González Convention Center, the Alamo, the San Antonio Museum of Art, the Japanese Tea Garden, Brackenridge Park, Trinity University, University of the Incarnate Word, the Witte Museum, the San Antonio Botanical Garden, the River Walk Streetcar Station and the San Antonio Zoo.
